Apparently there are enough tags for my music or enough related content to generate a radio station on Last.fm (should anyone enter Matthew Brehmer in an artist radio player).
I tried this today. First track to come up: the unforgettable 90′s smash hit “Steal My Sunshine” by Len…
…so I have decided to stop making music, forever.
Kidding. Somehow tags for ‘Canada’, ‘Toronto’, and ‘Ontario’ seem to carry more weight than genre tags or aspects of the music. Some friends of mine made an excellent Last.fm tag visualizer / interactive tag cloud last year for a UI design course at Queen’s University. Maybe it can help explain to me how I’m just a few degrees of separation from such bubble-gum gems.
If you’re a Last.fm user, take some time and listen to my artist radio, and tag my music with relevant tags. This will allow my music to find it’s ideal audience (and it will let us all avoid painful memories from the late 90′s together).
thats a kick in the pants!
Once Last.fm figures out some artists you’re similar to, that should hold more weight then even the tags… but like all things… that’ll take time, and more ppl listening to the tracks online etc.
